Oil Change Information - James Ceranti Nissan

An oil change can be one of the most beneficial services performed on your vehicle; however, do you know everything there is to know about getting your oil changed?

What is an oil change, anyway?

An oil change is simply draining the old motor oil and then (surprise) changing it with new oil.

When should I get an oil change?

Drivers can find necessary oil change information in the maintenance section of the owner’s manual. In addition, many manufacturers publish their manuals online.

If you are currently using the windshield sticker as your go-to method, we recommend that you change that habit up a bit. We suggest that you use a time estimate. This means, you get an oil change after a certain amount of months and at the same times each year. In order to find out your model’s recommended oil change time frame, make sure you take a look at the owner’s manual.

Why is this something that I have to do?

As you drive, the increased temperatures break down the motor oil and decrease the effectiveness. This causes the oil to not be able to perform other engine functions as well, including neutralizing acids and absorbing water. If you go too long without an oil change, your engine may not last as long without consistent oil changes.
